A reception was tendered Joseph Tepper, Palestinian painter, at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism, on which occasion his portrait of Prof. Mordecai M. Kaplan had its first showing. An exhibition of 72 paintings of old and new Palestine which were brought to this country by Mr. Tepper, was also opened at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism.
Col. Herbert H. Lehman, Charles Cohen, Nathan Lamport and Congressman W. W. Cohen have made purchases of paintings which will remain on free view daily and Sunday from 1 to 5 in the afternoon and from 8 to 10 in the evening until May 8.
The committee sponsoring the exhibition are Mrs. Charles Cohen, Congressman William W. Cohen, Mrs. Rachelle Garbat, Jonah J. Goldstein, Mrs. M. M. Kaplan, Dr. George Alexander Kohut, Mrs. Irma L. Lindheim, Mrs. Leon Munchin, Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, Miss Anna L. Bernstein, Mrs. Sol Rosenbloom and Mrs. Stephen S. Wise.
Twelve Jewish organizations participated in the second annual Music Contest of the Metropolitan League of Jewish Community Associations. The contest was held at the Institutional Synagogue on West 116th Street and prizes were awarded to seniors and juniors for violin, piano, and vocal music.
