Renewed tension between the Mapai and Mapam developed today following a decision last night by the agricultural council of the Histadrut to divide the collective settlement of Ein Harod between the Mapai and Mapam members of the colony along the line of a wadi which runs through the settlement.
Mapam representatives at the Histadrut’s agricultural council expressed their opposition to this decision and left the meeting after a stormy debate. They declared that the Mapam members in Ein Harod would not abide by the decision and insisted that the division of the settlement should be made by splitting the kibbutz into western and eastern zones.
On the other hand, the Mapai and Mapam Parties have come to an agreement over the future of Noar Oved, the labor youth movement, and thus managed to stave off a threatened split in the youth labor organization. Under the agreement, the work of the organization will come under the control of the Histadrut, with laborite youth being educated in accordance with the principles of the Histadrut. Three representatives of the Histadrut executive will participate in the Noar Oved executive council. The Communists in the movement opposed the agreement.
