A bill seeking termination of all denazification procedures in Bavaria has been introduced in the Bavarian Parliament by Herr Simmel, chairman of the Parliamentary German Refugee (B.H.E.) Party.
The bill calls for dissolution of the Bavarian Ministry for Political Liberation by March 31 and transfer of pending matters to the Ministry of Justice. It would halt initiation of new proceedings and the immediate halting of pending proceedings.
The bill would also establish the principle of equality between ordinary citizens and those classed by denazification courts as major or minor Nazis. Discrimination against the latter groups would no longer be permitted.
Herr Simmel announced he would introduce a new bill to indemnify persons who suffered “injustices” in denazification proceedings.
Dr. Wilhelm Hoegner, Bavarian Minister of the Interior, told newsmen today he believed all persons arrested after the war on the unfounded suspicion of being Nazis should receive compensation for their imprisonment.
The Minister asserted that the Bavarian Office for Protection of the Constitution was keeping a close watch on the activities of radical groups in Bavaria which had gone underground after the September elections. He said the extreme rightwing groups were so badly in debt as a result of their election outlays that they had been forced practically to cease all political activities.
