The ink on the signatures of the Franco-German agreement guaranteeing peace for Jews of the Saar for at least one year has not yet dried. Nevertheless, we already hear of Nazi terror against Jews in the Saar region.
The Jewish community in Saarbruecken was compelled yesterday to issue an official protest against the pogrom agitation carried on there by the Nazis on the allegation that Jews are financing propaganda urging that the Saar remain under the League of Nations instead of joining Germany.
It is easy to foresee what will happen to the Jews in the Saar after the plebiscite next month. If the Saar Nazis could not resist the temptation of inciting against the Jews a few days after Germany pledged itself before the world to treat the Saar Jews equally, one can imagine to what extent the Nazis will succumb this temptation when Germany’s pledge is a few weeks and not a few days old.
