Israel Air Force planes attacked a terrorist base in Lebanon south of Beirut this afternoon and returned safely to their bases, a military communique said. It was the second Israeli attack on terrorist targets in Lebanon this month within the framework of Israel’s policy of preemptive action to prevent terrorists from launching attacks on Israel. The terrorist bases were also attacked last Thursday night.
“We cannot wait until marauders reach Nahariya or Misgav Am once again,” Premier Menachem Begin declared after today’s air attack. He said it was effective in forestalling a terrorist raid on Israel. According to Lebanese sources, the Israeli air raid lasted over an hour. Ambulances were seen speeding southward from Beirut, apparently to evacuate casualties.
