Israel Defense Force soldiers killed three terrorists in a clash in the South Lebanon security zone Friday night.
There were no Israeli casualties.
Military sources said the three terrorists, armed with rifles, explosives and grenades, were apparently on their way to carry out an attack inside Israel when they were intercepted by a routine patrol south of the Lebanese village of Marouner Rass.
The village is two kilometers north of Moshav Avivim in Galilee.
In Sidon, George Habash’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed credit for “killing or wounding several Zionist enemy soldiers” in a “four-hour battle.” They called the slain men “heroes” who were “martyred on the land of Palestine.”
Elsewhere in South Lebanon during the weekend, one terrorist was killed and three IDF soldiers were slightly wounded in separate incidents.
The soldiers were wounded Friday afternoon near Marjayoun when a car exploded some 130 feet from the jeep in which they were riding.
It was still unclear whether the vehicle had been a car bomb or whether it had hit a landmine.
In the second incident, the terrorist was killed Saturday in an attack on a South Lebanon Army outpost.
