A testimonial dinner to Miss Henrietta Szold will be given on Monday evening at the Hotel Astor, in honor of her election to the Palestine Executive. Miss Szold, who is the founder of the Hadassah, Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is the first woman to be elected to the Zionist Executive. The dinner is being arranged by the Zionist Organization of America.
Miss Szold will be presented with a list of five hundred Zionists who have become life members of the Zionist Organization of America in her honor. Nathan Straus is Honorary Chairman of the Testimonial Committee.
The speakers at the dinner will be Judge Julian W. Mack, of the United States Circuit Court, Mrs. Irma Lindheim, President of Hadassah, Louis Lipsky, Dr. Judah L. Manges, Dean of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; Rabbi Hirsch Masliansky, Morris Rothenberg, Maurice Samuel and Dr. Stephen S. Wise.
Among those who were recently created King’s Counsel are Nathan Gordon and Max Bernfeld, both of whom are well-known in the Jewish communal life of Montreal. Mr. Gordon was at one time the rabbi of the Temple Emanu-El and also held the position of City Prosecutor for Montreal when he gave up the rabbinate to enter the legal profession. Mr. Bernfeld is connected with both the B’nai Brith Lodge of Montreal and the Baron de Hirsch Institute.
A new antiseptic extracted from coal tar products, called “Monsol,” was discovered by the Mondson Refining Company, London, of which Henry Mond, a son of Sir Alfred Mond, is chairman.
