Texas Gov. George Bush will travel to Israel on Friday for a weeklong trip sponsored by the National Jewish Coalition, a Republican group. Bush, who is considering a run for president in 2000, is one of four Republican governors scheduled to make the trip. The visit will be Bush’s first to Israel and is widely seen as an effort to head off Jewish opposition to his potential candidacy.
