The 35th anniversary of the founding of Budapest’s “Jewish Theater” is being celebrated here this week. Commenting on the occasion, the non-party paper “Magyar Nemzet” (Hungarian Nation), says that Jewish plays constitute “a real and valid culture.” The paper adds that with the creation of the Jewish Theater 35 years ago, “the day when Jews had to perform their plays in a ghetto theater” in Hungary “was swept away forever.”
