The American architect whose design is favored for Germany’s planned national Holocaust memorial said a decision should be made soon on whether the controversial memorial will be built. The memorial “has to move away from politics and gradually become living memory,” said Peter Eisenman. The proposed memorial, which has been mired in controversy for more than a decade, recently became a political football in the run-up to the Sept. 27 national elections.
