The American Jewish Congress, in a letter delivered to the Syrian Embassy, called upon Syrian President Hafez Assad “to restore the full rights of the Jews of Syria, including the right of free emigration.” A first step in this direction, the letter said, would be to allow Syrian Jews to be reunited with their families in the U.S.
