The Board of Deputies of British Jews sent a message today to Israel on behalf of British Jewry, expressing “our profound sorrow on the passing of the revered President Ben-Zvi, whose distinction of mind and character maintained the high dignity of his office and enhanced the prestige of the state and the people of which he was the head.”
A reception at the Israel Embassy on Israel’s 15th Independence Day was canceled today because of the death of President Ben-Zvi. A memorial meeting was held by the Zionist Federation today at which tributes were paid by Chairman J. Halevi, Sir Barnett Janner, and Dr. S. Levenberg of the Jewish Agency.
