The Cabinet did not take action today to end the strike by customs inspectors and other employes of the customs agency which is continuing at Ashdod, Israel’s second largest seaport. Striking customs officials at Lydda Airport were hard at work after being served with an injunction last week. Efforts were unsuccessful late last night to settle the customs strike. The strikers claimed that the negotiators dispatched by the Finance Ministry lacked the authority to settle their demands. Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir indicated today that he might ask for a special Cabinet session to take action against the striking customs employes. A Knesset session has been called for tomorrow on the subject of labor disputes.
