The Canadian Jewish Congress has called on the Dominion Government to oppose the move in the United Nations to institute world calendar reform through the “blank day device,” which would un-fix the position of the Sabbath in the week. Pearson, CJC president Samuel Bronfman declared that the interruption of the traditional continuity of the week would bring “confusion into the religious and social life of Jews” and would negate “ancient cultural and historical values.”
