The Catholic Church beatified a 19th-century German nun who inspired Mel Gibson in making “The Passion.” After the death of Anna Katharina Emmerick in 1824, grisly visions of the torturing of Jesus were attributed to her in a book, “The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.”
