The chairman of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee indicated he would be willing to work with the Clinton administration to fund an Israeli-Syrian peace deal. “I’m certain we can meet whatever objectives the administration and Congress agree to,” Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said in Jerusalem. Stevens was among a group of U.S. senators visiting Israel as speculation continued over the cost of peace between Israel and Syria.
