The Chief Rabbinate has declared the 40-day period from the first of Elul (last Monday), till Yom Kippur (Sept. 26), road safety days, “in view of the terrible slaughter on the roads.” The rabbis called for an “awakening” among drivers and pedestrians to the rules of the road during the period when every Jew is meant to account for his deeds and those of his people.
