The Claims Conference agreed to create a panel to centralize restitution efforts. The agreement came at the group’s board meeting Thursday in New York. Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the conference last month to create a “blue-ribbon panel,” saying it was needed “to examine how to increase efficiency, transparency, relevance and coordination in restitution efforts.” Instead, conference members passed a resolution at Thursday’s meeting to create a group comprised of the Claims Conference, the Israeli government and the World Jewish Restitution Organization that is aimed at centralizing restitution efforts and negotiating strategy.
