The Clinton administration stepped up its mediation in talks this week to break the Israeli-Palestinian deadlock by calling on Israel to turn over 12 percent of additional West Bank land to the Palestinians in three redeployments. In exchange, the Palestinians would have to fulfill specific security conditions. This week’s talks in Washington are scheduled resume next week in the Middle East under the mediation of the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Edward Walker.
