The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations affirmed its support of Israel’s disengagement plan. The conference, which was in Israel for its annual leadership mission, has expressed its support for the plan in the past. On Sunday, the day the Israeli Cabinet gave final approval to the plan to withdraw Israeli troops and dismantle Israeli settlements from the Gaza Strip and part of the northern West Bank, the organization made a pledge to stand firmly behind Sharon and his path.
The chief of Israel’s air force hinted that a military strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities is possible. “For obvious reasons, if the government will ask us to do something, they can decide. We have to give the answers. We have to do the planning,” Maj. Gen. Eliezer Shkedi told reporters Monday. “We must try all the alternatives before we choose something complicated. But we don’t have a lot of time.”
