The consumer price index leapt up by nearly four percent in August, according to official statistics, reflecting the brunt of the government’s recent wave of price rises and subsidy cuts. Not counting fruits and vegetables, which usually go down in price during the summer, the August figure shows a jump of close to five percent, the Central Bureau of Statistics said.
