The correspondent for the Italian Communist Party newspaper, Unita, was beaten up on a street in Warsaw last month by anti-Semites who mistook him for a Jew, it was learned here Monday. As a result, the paper has decided not to send another correspondent to Poland but agreed to hush up the incident. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned of the incident from other newsmen who were informed unofficially by Communist journalists. The correspondent, A. Fabiani, was reportedly assaulted, called a “dirty Jew,” and threatened with severe bodily harm. Police refused to intervene or arrest the assailants. One of the policemen suggested to Fabiani that he leave the country. The journalist took his advice.
