The European Jewish Congress appointed a Ukrainian Jewish leader as a special envoy.
Evgeniy Chervonenko, 48, the governor of the Zaporozhsky region and a close aide to Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, will serve the congress as envoy for Central and Eastern European affairs.
Chervonenko is also a member of the World Jewish Congress board of trustees, and vice president of the Eurasian Jewish Congress and the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.
