The European Union’s Middle East envoy is pressing ahead with efforts to convene an international conference aimed at advancing Middle East peace. Miguel Angel Moratinos held talks in Syria about the proposal before traveling to Lebanon, and later to Israel. The proposal for a European-sponsored conference was first advanced by France and Egypt. Israel opposes the idea.
