The Jewish population settled on the colonies of the Ica in the argentine today numbers 5360 families, containing 30,725 persons, according to figures just received from the headquarters of the Jewish Colonization Association (Ica). There are 2650 colonists, their families representiing a population of 19,280. In addition, there are 1919 families of agricultural workers, numbering 11,445 persons.
430 colonists have paid off to the Ica all advances made in the course of a period of eight years and are now the owners of their farms.
The land owned by the Ica covers an area of 590,000 hectares. In 1923, the colonists sowed 225,759 hectares, as compared with 196,288 hectares in 1922. The crops produced are valued at $4,587,591. The live-stock owned by the colonists was estimated last year at $8,093,884. It comprised 132,701 cattle, 13,399 sheep, and 62,210 horses. The working-stock was estimated at 4,305,845 dollars, and included 3,666 ploughs 2,910 harrows, 1,684 reaping and binding machines and 77 tractors.
Dairy farming has developed extensively in the Ica colonies. In 1923,18,444 litres of milk were sold, at a value of $1,037,834.
