The extraordinary session of the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Nations was arranged to be held here at the special request of Premier Mussolini, the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here learns from authoritative sources. In well-informed political circles, it was stated today that Italy is greatly interested in the future of Syria, in connection with the opposition to the French mandate. In the event that France wishes to give up her mandate, Italy is inclined to accept the responsibility for Syria on the same conditions as France.

Rumors current here, although they remained unconfirmed, add that important members of the Council of the League of Nations are favorably inclined toward an Italian mandate over Syria.
