The Federation of Temple Sisterhoods with the cooperation of the Department of Synagogue and School Extension. through a Committee on Literature for the Jewish Sightless of which Mrs. O’car Silberschmidt is chairman, is making it possible for Jews who have lost sight to become familiar with religious literal are. Following a survey of institutions to ascertain the number of Jewish adult blind in them, steps have been taken for the transcription of the Union Prayerbook in Braille. Forty-two Sisterhoods have appointed chairmen and committees to study Braille. Each committee will transcribe at least one part of the Prayerbook in Braille. This will be followed by the transcription of a number of tracts issued by the Department of Synagogue and School Extension, it is planned.
The first tract that will be transcribed into Braille will be “What Do Jews Believe?” by Dr. H. G. Enelow.
