The film “Nurse Cavell,” produced in England, was withdrawn from the London motion picture houses following representations made by the German Foreign Office to the British government. The German Foreign Office contended that the showing of the film will renew the war hysteria and the hatred against Germany.
It was stated authoritatively that the films “Four Horsemen of the Aoocalypse,” produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and “Mare Nostrum” will also be withdrawn because of the objections of the German government.
This decision with regard to eliminating racial elements from the motion picture medium has caused lively comment here because of the non-withdrawal of the film “King of Kings,” despite Jewish protests.
Commenting on this matter the London “Jewish Chronicle” declares that while it is satisfied that the Nurse Cavell film was withdrawn, a case where a film was withdrawn because of objections on moral grunds, one must recall that similar protests made by Jews were without result.
