The first woman ordained as a rabbi in the United States is retiring. Sally Priesand will give up her post next month at Monmouth Reform Temple in New Jersey and become rabbi emerita. Priesand was ordained by the Reform movement’s seminary, the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, in 1972.
