The foremost experts in the United States on the physical equipment required for community centers to enable them to best serve their purposes are to be consulted before plans for San Francisco’s proposed new Jewish Community Center are completed. Their guidance will be sought in perfecting plans for the San Francisco Center’s equipment to provide for physical education, social activities, educational work and the like.
This was decided at the recent meeting of the sub-committee on center activities presided over by its chairman, Harold Zellerbach. At the same time it was decided to communicate with other such centers throughout the country and obtain data from them on these points.
Another sub-committee, appointed to interview representatives of local Jewish organizations to determine their attitude toward joining in the center is making encouraging reports. This group, headed by Maurice L. Rapheld, has met with representatives of the Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, Junior Hadassah and the Zionist District.
Representatives of these organizations have told the committee that while they lacked authority to speak for their respective groups, as individuals they endorsed the center plan.
