The former bookkeeper of the Reform movement’s seminary in Los Angeles was charged with embezzling more than $1 million from the institution. Jean Thorbourn has been charged with 13 counts of forgery, one count of grand theft and four counts of filing false state tax returns. She is accused of using money embezzled from the Hebrew Union College to make credit card, car loan and mortgage payments.
