The government has announced plans to end its ban on imports of Israeli grapefruits and oranges, it was announced here several days ago. The Agriculture-Forestry Ministry will hold a public hearing in mid-April on ending the ban. The ban had been placed on the import of Israeli citrus fruits because of fears that it could lead to the introduction here of a plant disease peculiar to Israel. However, Ministry officials who conducted an on-the-spot inspection in Israel late last year, found the disease had been eradicated. The Ministry’s decision to end the import ban was taken after Israeli Vice-Minister of Agriculture Avraham Brum met with Vice-Minister Osamu Morimoto and other Agriculture-Forestry Ministry officials and asked for an end to the ban.
