The head of France’s Jewish community criticized President Jacques Chirac for saying during a trip to Lebanon last month that Israel must withdraw from Lebanon and the Golan Heights without any conditions. Henri Hajdenberg, president of CRIF, France’s umbrella group for secular Jewish organizations, said the remarks showed that France had proven itself to be too pro-Arab to act as a mediator in the Middle East peace process.
