The head of the European Union’s executive body said he would visit the Middle East later this week. Jacques Santer said he was “very concerned by the fact that the Mideast peace process is blocked,” adding that the 15-nation European bloc had a right to involve itself in the process because of the “considerable aid” it has given to the area. The European Union is the largest foreign donor to the Palestinian Authority.
