The hijacking of a Russian airliner to southern Israel ended when the lone Chechen hijacker, described by authorities as “unstable,” surrendered and released all 58 passengers and crew onboard unharmed. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who had ordered his plane to turn homeward, resumed his flight to Washington after the incident was resolved.
