The Israeli and Palestinian leaders announced an end to violence. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas hope Tuesday’s announcement, from the summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheik, will put an end to the 4-year-old Palestinian intifada. Abbas said Palestinians would end all violence against Israelis, and Sharon said Israel would end military actions against the Palestinians. “For the first time in a long time, there is hope in our region for a better future for our children and our grandchildren,” Sharon said.
