The Jewish mayor of a New Jersey suburb was accused of saying she did not want more Orthodox Jews moving in and “throwing stones at cars on the Sabbath,” according to the Bergen Record. Testifying at a federal court hearing to determine whether Tenafly officials can legally bar the construction of an eruv – a wire permitting observant Jews to carry things on Shabbat – Mayor Ann Moscovitz said comments she made relaying some constituents’ concerns about the eruv had been distorted.
