The Jewish National Fund has provided a plot of land near Mount Meron in Galilee for the planting of what is believed will be the first memorial forest for the late John Lennon, of the Beatles. The idea for the Lennon Memorial Forest originated with a group of Orthodox Jewish newcomers from the U.S. living in Safed. Funds are being raised among Galilee residents and Jews abroad. The first trees are to be planted shortly by Safed youngsters and Arab children from neighboring villages.
