The Jordanian Parliament rejected a motion to cancel the nation’s 1994 peace treaty with Israel to protest Israel’s decision earlier this week to cut water supplies to Jordan. But the legislators on Thursday protested the planned cut, saying it “violated a fundamental element of the treaty.” Israeli officials defended the cut, saying it is necessary because of a regional drought.
