The jury began deliberating in the French war crimes trial of former Vichy France official Maurice Papon. Papon, who will await the verdict in a hospital in a reportedly prearranged move, is accused of sending 1,560 Jews to their deaths during the war. Throughout the oft-delayed trial, Papon has claimed that he did his best to save Jews.
