The Knesset approved a 30.194 billion New Shekel (NS) state budget Monday night after a lackluster debate at which coalition discipline prevailed. Although many Labor and Likud MKs were as critical of the budget as opposition members, they voted for it. The absence of Premier Shimon Peres, who is presently visiting the U.S., did not detract from the impact of his warning that unless the coalition stood behind the budget, there would be no coalition.
