The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee held its first meeting Thursday on the Hebron issue but avoided its substance and concentrated on procedures. It set no date for a vote on the issue itself. The discussion centered on whether the various factions could replace their members on the committee before it votes on the Cabinet’s decision to establish a Jewish presence in the West Bank Arab town. The issue was raised after the Likud Knesset faction decided Wednesday to replace Amnon Lin, who opposes the Cabinet’s decision with Yigal Cohen who favors it. The Labor Alignment, for its part, wants to replace three of its members who may be abroad when the matter comes, up for a vote. The three Liberal Party members of the committee said that they were opposed to the decision and would vote against it.
