The knifing of a Jewish leader in a Moscow synagogue was a “cowardly act of terrorism,” the U.S. State Department said Wednesday. Jewish groups in Russia and the United States said the attack provides the latest proof that the Russian government must do more to crack down on anti-Semitism. “Today knives are being used, tomorrow smoke will be seen rising from the crematoria,” the Russian Jewish Congress said in a letter to government officials.
