Please accept our heartfelt condolence on the death of your illustrious father. C. P. Scott has a place in Jewish history as a defender of Jewish rights in every country, and as an influential and helpful champion on the rehabilitation of the Jewish people in its ancient land, reads a message from the Executive of the Zionist World Organisation and the Jewish Agency published to-day in the “Manchester Guardian” among many other tributes to the memory of the late Mr. C. P. Scott, of the “Manchester Guardian”.
Mr. Nathan Laski, speaking in Manchester last night at a farewell meeting to Dr. J. M. Yoffey, President of the Manchester Zionist Association, who is leaving Manchester to take up an appointment as lecturer in anatomy at Cardiff University, paid a tribute to the memory of Mr. Scott, and extended on behalf of the Jewish Community the utmost sympathy to his family.
The Rev. Jacob Phillips, President of the Manchester and Salford Jewish Visitation Board, which includes all Ministers and Rabbis of Manchester, preaching at the Park Place (Manchester) Synagogue on Saturday, said:
Mr. C. P. Scott was a man among men, endowed with the greatest capacities to rise to unwonted heights. God makes but few such men, whose lives are object lessons to the multitude. As a great journalist he was the doughty champion of clear convictions, the fearless and untiring fighter in the forefront for justice to all men. Not alone has Manchester suffered a great bereavement, but the whole country will mourn the loss of a brave and godly man. Jews in particular will always cherish his memory, and remember with gratitude the eminent services he rendered to the persecuted and oppressed.
