The latest edition of Collins English Dictionary has dropped a definition of a Jew as a skinflint, miser or cheat. Collins, the publisher, said the change had been made because the usages were no longer appropriate. It denied that it has anything to do with Manchester businessman Marcus Shloimowitz who has pressed dictionary publishers for the past 10 years to remove “vulgar” and “offensive” definitions of the word Jew. However, Shloimowitz said he was delighted by the change.
