The leaders of two Jewish organizations urged the U.S. Jewish community to support some form of government funding for religious schools. Jack Wertheimer, provost of the Jewish Theological Seminary, and John Ruskay, executive vice president of the UJA-Federation of Greater New York, made the comments at a conference sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, which has long been a staunch defender of church-state separation.
