The Leadership Conference of National Jewish Women’s Organizations Tuesday urged President Carter to instruct the U.S. delegation to the international women’s conference in Copenhagen “to resist in every way the subversion of the conference by the Palestine Liberation Organization. The needs of women for education, health care and employment are the proper subjects of the Copenhagen conference–not anti-Israel propaganda,” said Leona Chanin, chairwoman of the Leadership Conference. She was referring to moves to brand Zionism as “one of the major evils of the world” and to channel funds designated for Palestinian women through the PLO. Ms. Chanin, in her telegram, said these developments represent a serious blow to Israel, the cause of Mideast peace and to the needs of women around the world.
