The mayor of a large West Bank settlement criticized a recently approved Israeli plan that would strengthen ties between his settlement and Jerusalem. Benny Kashriel, the mayor of Ma’aleh Adumim, was quoted as saying the residents of his settlement “have no desire to be part of Jerusalem.” The plan, which would, among other things, place eight West Bank settlements under Jerusalem’s municipal control, has come under international criticism.
