The mayor of a southern Russian town sued the region’s governor for calling his administration a “Zionist nest.” The governor of the region of Krasnodar, Nikolai Kondratenko, has repeatedly expressed anti-Semitic, racist and anti- Western statements. The Kremlin has not responded to numerous requests from Russia’s Jewish community to investigate Kondratenko, who is a supporter of beleaguered President Boris Yeltsin.
