The mayor of Jerusalem conferred in Moscow with the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church about a pilgrimage expected to bring some 2 million Russians to Israel between 1999 and 2001 to mark the 2,000th anniversary of Christianity. In addition to Patriarch Alexei II, Ehud Olmert met with his Moscow counterpart, Yuri Luzhkov, to discuss cooperation between the two capitals.
